"Conviction of the Heart" TAMA Conference on April 26 in Virginia City!
On Saturday, April 26, Community Chest’s Global Voice Project is hosting a benefit concert at the historic Piper's Opera House in Virginia City. TAMA, the Tahoe-Truckee Alliance for the Musical Arts, is a group of professional musicians from the Truckee area that have opened for Leon Russell and Nicolette Larson and have played sold out shows in Truckee for the past 15 years. For this engagement, they will be playing songs -- folk to rock and beyond -- from the 60's through the 90's.
TAMA was coaxed out of retirement last year when they agreed to bring their performance to Pipers Opera House in Virginia City, NV and support local youth programs regionally. 100% of proceeds from the concert will benefit young musicians and Global Voice youth. Show your support and celebrate service and music by joining us Saturday the 26th of April. Come early for a light dinner and silent auction. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a light dinner fare and Silent Auction. Show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available on line at Pipersoperahouse.com, at Pipers Opera House, at L'Uva Bella in the Summit Mall, or by calling Tiffiny at Community Chest, Inc. 847-9311. 100% of proceeds will be donated to youth programs in this region. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Check out TAMA’s previous concerts at www.tamamusic.org . Mark your calendars for this spectacular event—a night filled with your favorite songs.
This concert is the culminating celebration for the magic that will transpire earlier. On Friday, April 25, 2008, Community Chest, Inc. and its Global Voice Project are partnering with the local schools to participate in Global Youth Service Day. Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) is organized by Youth Service America with the Global Youth Action Network as its key partner and a consortium of international organizations and over 120 national coordinating committees in participating countries. GYSD is an annual global event that highlights and celebrates the contributions of youth to their communities through volunteer service. During Global Youth Service Day, youth around the world organize community service projects to address local needs. GYSD is held during a weekend every April. In 2008, the event will be held on April 25-27. GYSD is celebrated in over 100 countries in every region of the world. Youth participate in GYSD to address the needs of their local communities through service, to be recognized for their contributions, and to be a part of a global youth service movement. In Virginia City, NV and other Storey County communities you will see teams of youth and their community partners engaged in community clean-up and beautification efforts, fire-reduction activities, signage repair and construction, school and community garden planting, and yard clean-ups for homebound seniors. Other service activities are being carried out indoors.

What began as an idea - to create an organization that would be a catalyst for change and a center for resources to help people help themselves - has evolved into a broad team of people and volunteers, who together, build healthy families and communities.
